for a self-proclaimed hypochondriac, this blog entry would matter very much to me:

Dangers of Web 2.0: In Medicine

I’ve written more than 200 posts about web 2.0 and medicine, but I almost never focus on the dangers web 2.0 can cause to medical professionals and patients. The first time I talked about this important subject was at the School of Medicine, at Yale. And they liked it. So let’s see what kind of problems, dangers we have to face while using web 2.0 in medicine and the tools we have to fight against these with.  read more

i think it is important to remind ourselves that not all the information we get from the Web is gospel truth. even books in the library aren’t gospel truth too. here is where critical thinking and reading matters in terms of accessing information shared by different media– print to new media to broadcast. what is most needed is to be able to evaluate information from a discursive level, information as a product of discursive formations, so that when we choose what to believe, we are aware of such make-up.

and the medical field is also more importantly a part of a discursive formation (read haraway). hence, sometimes i even wonder why some people, internet users to be specific, still desire to surf information on the Web about certain illnesses, when there are health practitioners and/or health centers or hospitals in their area. don’t you even wonder? well, for me, it is because of this need to feel like you have power over your body, your health. that is, talking from experience. sometimes, we feel so powerless when in front of the doctor–the holder of absolute truth about your body. but if we are able to deconstruct this relationship, we will realize that the power can be subverted too. 🙂

  1. I’ve been exploring for a little for any high-quality articles or weblog posts on this kind of space .
Exploring in Yahoo I ultimately stumbled upon this web site.
Reading this information So i am glad to show that I have an incredibly good uncanny feeling I came upon exactly what I needed.
I most no doubt will make certain to do not forget this website and give it
a glance on a continuing basis.
