the numinous in art

in the L word last night (yes i watched season 4 to destress myself even though it’s school night), beth porter quotes jeannette winterson:

“art coaxes us away from the mundane and leads us towards the miraculous”

i believe she was referring to the numinous (from the word numina) quality of art  especially the visual. i wonder how the post-modernist would react to this idea that art can make us see/experience this construct of the “miraculous.”it’s interesting to note that such impassioned modernist look at art still holds a place in our otherwise dog-eat-dog world of pragmatic functionalism gone awry.
